Synopsis

[Alternate history + martial arts world + political intrigue + extraordinary people and arts + mystery] The pursuit of the Dao is not about seeking immortality. The bustling mortal world is full of the Dao; the only question is, what is the Dao? There are countless great paths in this world, yet most people are trapped by fame and status, enslaved by external things. They act only when circumstances permit, and in the end never attain freedom. The Dao is not found in temples or scriptures, but in a boundless heart. Even amid a busy, fleeting life, one can ride the wind alone and roam in spirit with heaven and earth. Nor is the Dao found by sitting before an idol on a meditation cushion and reciting scripture day after day. To obsessively pursue the immortal path of longevity is itself attachment. Depending on something else is not true freedom. Eight or nine out of ten things in life go wrong. Those who seek immortality want unrivaled supernatural powers; those who seek office want high positions; those who seek fame want to be known throughout the land; those who seek freedom often confine themselves to the mountains, searching for a freedom that still depends on something else. They are dissatisfied even when they get what they want, because external things have trapped their hearts. Those who seek immortality are trapped by their powers, and once they gain them, they believe they have attained the Dao. Those who seek office are trapped by high rank, believing they can only feel secure when they hold power. Those who seek freedom reject the bustle of the mortal world and believe that the clouds and fields of the countryside offer freedom, unaware that their own hearts are what hold them captive. How could the author be any less trapped? That is why this book is titled The Dao, Unknown! Some of the characters, settings, and sects in this novel are inspired by the game Tale of Wuxia.

Looking for Books About Genuine Taoist Priests, Written by Authors Who Really Know Their Classics and the Basics of the Different Schools

Looking for books like Traditional Martial Arts: Slacking Off Back in the Village? I’ll Train and Become a Martial Arts Saint. I want something written by an author who’s genuinely well-read in Daoist classics and knows their stuff. Don’t recommend anything written by someone who hasn’t done their homework. The protagonist shouldn’t be too young and should be mature-minded. If they’re too young and immature, I’m not interested...

Looking for a Protagonist Well-Versed in the Daoist Canon and Other Esoteric Texts, Who Combines Them to Create Their Own Cultivation Method

The protagonist creates his own cultivation techniques early on, which give him an edge. When the spiritual qi revival begins, he breaks through his limits ahead of everyone else, then refines the Qimen Dunjia into a formation and walls off his home to protect it. Any recommendations for similar novels?
