Ning Qingxi transmigrates into a book, the period novel she had been reading before bed, and becomes a cannon-fodder supporting character with the same name as her.
In the story, the original Ning Qingxi falls for a supporting male character who returns home on leave from the army. She arranges to fall into the water and pins the blame on him, forcing him into an engagement.
But just two months later, the man is sent back after losing his sight. The original Ning Qingxi regrets her decision and elopes with a handsome young intellectual, but falls ill and dies before they even get halfway there.
After losing his sight and suffering a series of blows, the man gradually becomes twisted and turns into the ruthless villain of the original story, throwing its world into chaos. In the end, he meets a grim fate of his own.
Now that Ning Qingxi has taken her place, her parents ask what she wants to do. She changes her answer at the last moment. “I’ll marry him!”
“Ding! Congratulations, Host, you have successfully activated the System!”
