[Mystery and Investigation | Deduction | Light Political Intrigue | Linked Serial Murders | A Vivid Portrait of Society]

Yun Shu, the legitimate son of a great general and once the crown prince's study companion, watched his family suffer a sudden calamity. His father was framed for colluding with the enemy and plotting treason, and the entire clan was sentenced to death. With secret help, he faked his death and escaped, abandoning his identity to drift among the common people. He endures humiliation and lies low, vowing to expose the mastermind who framed his family and clear their name.

After the Yun family tragedy, corruption within the court became increasingly apparent. Wrongful cases sprang up across the land, and the people struggled to make ends meet. Determined to reform the bureaucracy, the crown prince appoints Ji Heng as an inspector and sends him to travel through the prefectures and counties, investigate local conditions, and thoroughly examine difficult cases that have long gone unresolved.

A bizarre murder brings the two men, whose circumstances could hardly be more different, together by chance. They join forces to investigate, traveling through cities and towns, solving one strange murder after another, each concealing the joys and sorrows of ordinary people. The clues to these cases are intertwined, and local murders gradually lead to undercurrents at court. The shocking conspiracy that brought down the Yun family all those years ago is slowly being unraveled, layer by layer.
