Bu Shulin enters the capital as a hostage, disguised as a man, and is cornered by an imperial decree ordering her to marry.

She sets her sights on Cui Jinbai, the deputy minister of the Court of Judicial Review and the most heartless, cold-faced devil in the capital. The rules are etched into his bones, and no one has ever seen him make an exception for anyone.

She deliberately gets close to him and flirts with him every which way, playing the part of a rakish playboy until Cui Jinbai can't sleep for thinking of her.

The day she gets the decree canceling the marriage, she brushes off her clothes and prepares to walk away, only for him to block her in an alley.

Cui Jinbai stares at her, his voice so hoarse it barely sounds like him. “You flirted with me and now you're running? Too late. You made me break my own rules, so you're going to take responsibility for it.”

She had thought of everything, but failed to account for falling in love.
