Five years ago, the Empress Dowager and the regent conspired to frame the Marquis of Zhen Guo’s household for becoming too powerful. All 308 members of the family were slaughtered.
Five years later, Shen Ning, the marquis’s surviving orphan, assumes the identity of a poor village doctor and enters the man-eating imperial harem as a lowly palace maid.
She possesses medical skills that can bring the dying back to life and secretly wields a poison art that kills without a trace. She carefully plots every move, vowing to grind her enemies’ bones to dust.
Xiao Jue, the cold and ruthless emperor of the Dayuan Dynasty, is constrained by the powerful clans. He plans to use the frail doctor as a pawn to test the Empress Dowager, but as they clash again and again, he becomes deeply attracted to her ruthless decisiveness and extraordinary talent.
They begin by watching each other coldly and using one another. Later, he fiercely protects her and relentlessly pursues her, until the cold-faced emperor falls completely. Together, they take on their enemies, expose hypocrites, battle powerful officials, and execute the Empress Dowager, finally reaching the pinnacle of power side by side.
