The Great Jing's Number One Demon Tamer: Every Demon Has a Book of Past Lives!

In the Great Jing Dynasty, demons run rampant, and the Demon-Suppressing Bureau has made it its mission to slay every great demon under heaven.

Shen Yan comes from a fallen noble family. With only half a tattered copy of the Classic of the Five Treasuries of Mountains to his name, he is nothing more than a low-ranking clerk at the county office.

Then a fire burns for days across the county seat. The Demon-Suppressing Bureau declares that a fire demon is to blame and prepares to burn down the mountain to destroy it.

Shen Yan touches a charred tree. A faint light flickers at his fingertips, and he glimpses the truth that has lain dormant in the flames for a thousand years.

The creature is no fire demon bent on harming people, but a Bifang bird, the ancient guardian of a sacred tree. It has kept watch over an unmarked ancient tomb, refusing to leave for a thousand years!

Everyone says that demon beasts are savage. Only Shen Yan knows that every fierce beast hunted by the world hides a tragic tale buried by time.

The Nine-Tailed Fox is no bewitching demon, but the last tomb guardian of the Tushan clan;

Taotie is no ravenous beast, but the remnant soul of an ancient war god cursed by the Celestial Realm;

Even without a head, Xing Tian still dances with his shield and battle-axe. He guards not a battlefield, but a promise left unfulfilled!

Where others see a demon and kill it, Shen Yan follows the clues back to their origins, resolves grudges that have lasted for a thousand years, and forges bonds of trust, making friends of countless demons.

When the Demon-Suppressing Bureau’s army closes in, the Daoist sects denounce him as a traitor in league with demons, and the gods in the highest heavens seek to erase him from existence,

Shen Yan opens the completed scroll of the Mountains and Seas. Behind him, all the demons of the Great Wilderness roar as one, forcing gods and devils alike to retreat!

“The sages of the human race created the Classic of Mountains and Seas to record the myriad beasts and understand the world, not to let you wipe them out.”

“Today, I, Shen Yan, will set the record straight for every demon in this land!”
