The 1980s: I Just Want to Make Money

Su Jin, a PhD in economics, wakes up as a young educated woman in 1982 who was almost sold by her own father for 300 yuan.

Her father wants to trade her for a bride price. Her mother doesn't dare object, and her younger brother is waiting for her to marry so he can get a wife of his own.

Su Jin doesn't cry or make a scene. She takes out a piece of paper and a pen and works out the numbers for her whole family: Keep me, and I'll give you 50 yuan a month. Sell me, and you'll lose out big.

From reselling eggs and drawing the attention of the city authorities, to turning a near-bankrupt textile mill into an industry leader...

From being mocked with, "What does a woman know about economics?" to getting into university and answering every doubter with her thesis...

From fighting alone to helping a group of women grow rich together...

Years later, someone asks her the secret to her success.

She says, "I've never believed anyone who told me I couldn't do it."
