She Mends the Human World at the Museum

Luo Qinghe is a paper-artifact conservator at the city museum. By day, she restores ancient books, paintings, and archives damaged by time. Every Friday evening, she helps ordinary people repair old photographs, family letters, documents, and children's drawings with no market value at the "Old Things Clinic" in the old town.

Ji Hengzhang is a historic-building restoration engineer in charge of safety upgrades in the old town. He insists that "the safety of the living comes first, and preserving old things comes afterward." This puts him repeatedly at odds with Luo Qinghe, who insists on minimal intervention and preserving traces of history. During the day, they clash fiercely at project meetings. Late at night, though, they sit on a bench in the alley behind the Old Things Clinic, finish a serving of fried noodles, and then head home separately.

They don't use love to save each other. Instead, through one professional choice after another, they come to understand why the other refuses to compromise.

Restoration isn't about erasing scars. It's about allowing people and objects bearing scars to keep on living.
