Reborn once, Lin Dong only wants to do three things.
Save money, invest in people, and loaf around. He would never go near the girl who made him wait three years in his previous life, only to die alone in a rented apartment. Not in a million years.
His plan was simple: use the few songs he vaguely remembered from his previous life and a handful of stocks that hadn't gone public yet to get in early and quietly make a fortune. As for Tang Wanxi, couldn't he just steer clear of her? He wasn't going to wait for her this time. She could do whatever she wanted.
Then, before the school year began, he was strolling by the lotus pond when Tang Wanxi slipped and toppled toward the water. Instinctively, Lin Dong grabbed her and flung her toward the bank, only to fall into the mud himself. The water wasn't deep, barely reaching his chest. He wiped the muddy water off his face. A squashed lotus flower sat crookedly on his head. He was just about to say he was fine.
Tang Wanxi was crouched by the pond, tears hitting the ground. She looked even more like she'd just been fished out of the water than he did.
“Lin Dong.”
“Yeah?”
“I don't want you to wait anymore.”
Lin Dong stood in the water, the lotus flower tilted on his head, his mind going blank. This was wrong. The script wasn't supposed to go like this.
Before he could figure out what had gone wrong, thousands of miles away, Miao Cui and Song Zhiyi had already gotten on the phone. The two mothers put their heads together and, while Lin Dong was still in the dark, changed the graduation banquet menu into an engagement banquet menu.
Later, someone asked Lin Dong, “You were someone important in your previous life. How come every step of your life now is planned out for you?”
Lin Dong put out his cigarette and, after a long pause, managed one reply.
“Hell if I know.”
