The Runaway Bride: He Brings a Million-Man Army to Force Me to Take Her Place

[Historical romance] [One-on-one sweet romance] [Maximum scoundrel-crushing] [High-stakes palace intrigue]

Shen Zhiyao, Princess Mingyao of Cen, is the most beloved princess in the kingdom. Her greatest wish in life is to live comfortably, rich and carefree.

But some people simply won't let her be.

The enemy claims she helped the fiancée of Xiao Ningyuan, the ruthless, iron-blooded regent of Sheng, escape. They demand she hand the woman over or their cavalry will storm the city!

Shen Zhiyao is furious.

She only arrived in Yizhou City yesterday and hasn't even left her room. How could she have helped any fiancée escape?

It's clearly a frame-up.

Xiao Ningyuan leads a million troops to the city gates, and his terms for peace turn out to be that she must take another bride's place and marry into Sheng.

On the city wall, Xiao Ningyuan watches Shen Zhiyao standing shoulder to shoulder with Ouyang Yu, a general of Cen. His murderous aura is so fierce it could overturn heaven and earth.

A hidden guard reports: “Princess Mingyao's visit is ostensibly for peace talks, but she is actually meeting Ouyang Yu. Prince Chen intends to betroth her to that lout to steady the troops.”

The military adviser asks timidly, “I'm afraid we may need to change the terms of the marriage alliance...”

“...”

Xiao Ningyuan smiles, a wicked gleam in his eyes. “The man is unmarried and the woman is unwed. Why should I give way?”

“Forget whether an imperial decree has been issued. Even if she were already at the wedding banquet, I'd still steal her away.”

“Shen Zhiyao can only be my wife in this lifetime.”

“...”

Then he strikes camp, summons his troops, and brings the army to the city at midnight.

Either Shen Zhiyao obediently takes another bride's place and marries into Sheng,

or Xiao Ningyuan levels Cen and carries her back to Shengjing.

This farce, all because of a “fiancée,”

gets Shen Zhiyao entangled with a man more terrifying than war itself.

Little does she know that this is a love that has been plotted for a long, long time.
