At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, in the autumn of troubled times, Liulichang in old Beijing was still prosperous. Tong Fengquan (played by Zhang Guoli), the shopkeeper of Fangutang, is an old antique dealer who is good at renovating and repairing old antiques. However, there are too many scams, abductions, and losses in this industry. Even a shrewd person like Tong Fengquan cannot escape the vicious cycle of being set up and framed by each other. Because of a three-legged dowry from Ru kiln, two antique shops collapsed and people died, and Tong became a pauper with nothing.
