Mountains and rivers conceal magnetism, and the earth keeps its records.
Countless tales of strange happenings in remote mountains have circulated for generations: compasses spinning wildly, thick fog trapping travelers, eerie sounds echoing through secluded valleys, and barren ravines littered with white bones. People have always blamed mountain gods or restless spirits.
Years ago, Lin Yu’s father set out to investigate Hongshan Post Station and mysteriously disappeared, leaving behind only a notebook filled with geomagnetic observations. To find out what happened to his father, Lin Yu ventures into the ruins of the ancient post station, a place locals consider forbidden.
Gradually, he discovers that every strange phenomenon comes from natural magnetic fields deep beneath the earth’s surface.
More terrifying still, a group of people are secretly building a “Geo-Balance System.” Using natural iron-ore and rammed-earth nodes scattered across ancient ruins and post roads throughout the country, they plan to control the Earth’s magnetic field.
Some believe this System can regulate stress in the Earth’s crust and avert devastating geological disasters.
Others warn that forcibly interfering with the planet’s natural geomagnetic rhythms will only bring an irreversible catastrophe to its mountains and rivers.
There are no demons or ghosts, no supernatural mysteries or occult forces.
Behind every veil of mystery, it has never been gods or spirits, only the arrogance and greed growing in people’s hearts.
