During the Chongzhen period, at the junction of Huguang Chengtian and Jingzhou prefectures, refugees from all over gathered in Dushiwu under the remaining veins of Zhangshan Mountain. Shen Zhiwei, the daughter of Dr. Ling, landed here with a medical book left by her father. Based on her observation of the medicinal properties of herbs and mountains, rivers, water and soil, she found a way to survive and a land where she could settle down amid disease, famine and human strife.
