At the end of the Yellow Springs Road lies a stretch a hundred miles long, with no lamps.
Once the dead reach this place, they can no longer find the road to reincarnation.
Every hundred years, the Underworld sends one person to walk this road carrying a hundred soul-guiding lanterns, lighting them along the way to show the dead where to go. The current lamplighter is called Fu You. She thought her duty was simply to guide souls onward.
