Making a Living in Dongguan: A Factory Woman on the Assembly Line

Also known as The Factory Women of Dongguan

In 2005, in Chiling Industrial Zone, Houjie, Dongguan, one production line after another was where they found their foothold in the city. The brilliance of the neon lights could not illuminate their dignity.

The ordinary work on the production lines forged their passionate youth. From their hometowns to the factory floors, they carried a lifetime of drifting with them.

The crowded dormitory, crammed with more than a dozen people, was a home they were reluctant to acknowledge, yet it kept them company day and night.

At the skating rink in Chiling Amusement Park, their graceful figures once flashed by.

Their youth was about more than just production lines. There was also the lively bustle of the night market. They could raise a glass to the past, to tomorrow, and to a youth they would never regret.
