A Chinese dream born from a seed on the White Deer Plain, growing beside the Mekong. The one who rests here was once a man of Guanzhong. His soul returned to the White Deer Plain, while his body remained by the equator. Two great ambitions defined his life: China and all humankind.
Bai Huaijin was born in 1901 in Baijiabao, Shaanxi. A child prodigy of Guanzhong, he persuaded Qing troops to withdraw at the age of ten. He pursued his studies as a boy, organized local defense forces as a young man, and led an expedition to Burma in middle age, rebuilding a Chinese lineage across the Indochinese Peninsula. Across eight thousand miles of mountains beneath the moon, he carried a childlike devotion to his homeland for fifty years. He left civilization a backup and forged a third path to China's revival.
