Psychologist: Every Patient I See Is a Monster

[Urban fantasy | Gentle, healing monster-of-the-week stories | No horror, no angst]

Cheng Jian is a human therapist with the city’s most unusual practice: every patient who books a home visit is a monster hiding in the city, and he has no idea!

A vampire who fears crowds and bright lights suffers from severe social anxiety. A fox spirit who hides her nine tails and hates her inhuman appearance is trapped in body dysmorphic disorder. A werewolf who loses control at the full moon struggles with trauma that has never healed. A mind-reading spirit who hears everyone’s thoughts and can’t sleep day or night is tormented by anxiety.

The spirits secretly collect their therapy notes and work together to write A Human’s Guide to Passing as One of Them, hoping to soothe the insecurity and fear of their kind.

“Don’t worry. What you’re going through is very common.”

Day after day, the gentle and patient Cheng Jian comforts monsters bearing all kinds of wounds, using modern psychology to ease the burden of a thousand years spent hiding and fighting themselves.

No ghost-hunting or fighting, no melodramatic heartbreak. Just the gentle, everyday story of humans and the inhuman learning to accept and heal one another.
