Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio: From a Green Carp in West Lake to a True Dragon of the Ninth Heaven

Deep in the misty, boundless waters of West Lake, an ordinary green carp is born. Her name is Li Qing. She is born into this world of Strange Tales, with no transmigration, no System, and no heaven-defying golden finger. All she has is steady, diligent cultivation.

This is a vast and complete world, with the Heavenly Court above, the underworld turning below, immortals and Buddhas walking alongside one another, and Dragon Palaces ruling the Four Seas. Demons and monsters roam the mortal world. The Heavenly Dao is impartial: merit can shape one’s foundation, while karma can destroy one’s cultivation. All things follow set rules as they cultivate, and all are bound by limitations.

Only by surviving the four trials of the Dragon Gate can one shed the body of a demon: journeying to the Dragon Gate, leaping over the waterfall, enduring the tempering of heavenly fire and cloudburst, and being reborn. This path is nine parts death to one part life, and few have ever succeeded across the ages. Bearing a thousand years of accumulated cultivation and a lifetime of righteous merit, Li Qing will forge an unparalleled path to dragonhood in the vast world of Strange Tales.
