Back to ’99: Getting Rich by Beachcombing with My Curvy Wife

[City Farming + Building Wealth + System + Dad Life]

In 1999, in a small coastal fishing village, his sister-in-law smashed bowls and basins in the main room, demanding that the family split up. She complained that the second son’s family ate for free and dragged everyone down.

His frail wife, Su Nian, huddled in a side room with their five-year-old daughter, who had a fever. She stared at their bare, mud-brick home, her eyes red-rimmed.

Bai Yuan clenched the rusty sand shovel in his hand. A cold, mechanical voice suddenly rang out in his mind: [Ocean Field Guide System activated]!

A tidal-flat radar spread out in an instant. Beneath a dark pool, a dazzling golden glimmer flared like a searchlight.

Bai Yuan braced both hands against a crevice in the reef and heaved. As water sprayed everywhere, he managed to grip a brilliantly colored, arm-length lobster firmly by the back!

When local fishmongers joined forces to force down his prices, Bai Yuan retaliated by slamming an eight-jin wild giant yellow croaker onto the deck. Its golden gleam dazzled everyone.

“I have no objection to splitting up the family. I just want that leaky mud-brick shack at the east end of the village, plus twenty yuan.”

He started out digging clams and finding bargains on the tidal flats, then used sonar to track schools of fish offshore, and later relied on satellites to establish deep-sea fishing grounds in distant waters.

Bai Yuan stuffed stacks of thick hundred-yuan bills into his wife’s hands, buying their daughter the best imported asthma medicine.

Su Nian looked at the heaps of cash piled in the safe and her daughter’s rosy, healthy face, and tears filled her eyes.

At sunset on the Golden Bay wharf, Bai Yuan stood at the bow of a twelve-meter steel-hulled deep-sea fishing boat. Behind him stretched a massive fleet, returning home laden with its catch.
