In a parallel world, Huaxia, 1938: the fires of war rage across northwestern Shanxi, as Japanese forces launch a massive campaign to encircle the Independent Regiment. Zhao Yunlong's forces teeter on the brink of annihilation.
Ignoring his superiors' strict order to hold position, Chu Beijie, commander of the 338th Regiment, resolutely orders the mountain artillery battalion to open fire along the entire line, tearing a gap in the Japanese encirclement and saving Zhao Yunlong's forces.
The burden of disobeying orders weighs heavily on him, followed by political infighting and hostility from every side. Disillusioned, Chu Beijie leaves with a dozen or so loyal soldiers who followed him from his hometown and heads for the barren Hetao plains.
At his lowest point, the [Falanxi Defense Line Construction System] is unexpectedly activated, unlocking a complete set of technologies for fortress construction, military manufacturing, and land reclamation and troop training. With thousands of miles of fertile land in the Hou Tao at his command, Chu Beijie builds on a Maginot-style, multilayered defensive system. He digs trenches, constructs permanent fortifications, and manufactures his own guns, cannons, and tanks. As he develops wasteland to feed soldiers and civilians, he also supports resistance forces across the region.
He builds an iron wall at Wubulangkou, lays a chain of fortresses along the Yellow River, trains and expands his troops, manufactures weapons, suppresses bandits, and blocks the Japanese advance westward. Once a disgraced regimental commander who fled alone to Hetao, he now uses layer upon layer of solid defenses to hold the gateway to western Suiyuan. His forces grow by the day, becoming a thorn in the Japanese army's side and a grave threat they fear night and day!
The land lies shattered beneath the Japanese invasion. In the Hetao fortresses, Marshal Chu reigns supreme!
