The story follows the changing seasons at a little shop called Chuan Xu Ji. In spring, they simmer spring water; in summer, they make summer solstice; in autumn, they prepare the autumn equinox; and in winter, they brew late frost. Each dish belongs to a season, a person, and a memory. Xiao Xu grows saltgrass and mint in the fields, rediscovering the feeling of being alive through the soil. Lu Chuan and Xiao Xu go from distant to side by side, from testing each other to becoming one another’s support. Their feelings, like the broth simmering in the pot, take a full two years of slow cooking before their flavor begins to emerge.
