The Down-and-Out Young Lady Arrives with Her Child, and the Heir Kneels Again

[Raising a little one + lighthearted household drama + play the pig to eat the tiger + sweet, satisfying romance]

The whole capital was waiting for a laugh: a penniless cousin had arrived at the Marquis of Dingyuan’s estate to mooch off the family, with a three-and-a-half-year-old “burden” in tow!

As soon as she arrived, the matriarch tried to lay down the rules, relatives schemed to marry her off, and even her cousin, Xie Yanzhi, the cold and merciless heir who commanded a mighty army, looked at her like she was a nuisance.

Shen Hengwu lowered her eyes and acted meek. “Don’t worry, Cousin. Yuanbao and I won’t cause any trouble.”

Then she quietly used her secret medicines and sharp wits to build a thriving business in the capital, cheerfully leading every awful troublemaker who crossed her into a trap.

Three-and-a-half-year-old Yuanbao was an even fiercer little protector of his mother. Whenever he saw someone bully her, he’d tear into them, all to make good on his motto: “Anyone who messes with my mother will have the whole family turned upside down!”

Everyone who had been waiting for her to make a fool of herself was stunned as they watched their cousin grow more and more successful.

And the once-cold Marquis Xie, who had warned her not to “get any funny ideas,” gradually realized that his cousin wasn’t just skilled in medicine and good at making money. Every secret she kept left him itching with curiosity.

Then one day, clues to Yuanbao’s shocking birth began to emerge, and forces from all sides started making their moves. Shen Hengwu packed her bags, ready to flee with the child.

That night, the usually ruthless and iron-willed Marquis Xie blocked her door, dropped to one knee without a shred of pride, and clutched her sleeve as he pleaded through gritted teeth:

“Hengwu, the marquisate is yours, the military power is yours, and I’m yours too… Can we please stop sleeping in separate rooms tonight?”
