The Forensic Doctor Can Read Minds: The Dead Never Lie

Forensic intern Lin Mo has a secret: he can hear the dead person's final thoughts on the autopsy table.

Before he died, Zhang Jianguo said, "The person who killed me was wearing a Rolex."

Before the old teacher died, he said, "He poured me a cup of tea, and then I couldn't stand up."

Before Sample Four died, it said, "He stood nearby timing how long I struggled before I stopped breathing."

Every case he solves makes his ability a little stronger. And every time it grows, he gets a little closer to the unsolved "Maplewood Road Dismemberment Case" from three years ago. The previous Host of this ability was cut into thirty-three pieces, and the case remains unsolved. His very first mission is to uncover the truth, or become the next victim.

A thirty-day countdown. Everyone around him wears a mask: the criminal investigation captain is hiding crucial testimony, a psychology expert from the provincial department is secretly investigating him, and even Uncle Zhao, the mentor who taught him forensic science, was caught on surveillance sneaking into the archives in the middle of the night and taking every case file.

The dead speak in his ear. The living lie to his face.

Then the person who calls himself his "mentor" sends him a text:

"I planted the seed inside you three years ago. Tonight, it's time to harvest it."

I thought I was an ordinary forensic examiner, until the dead began speaking inside my head. The dismemberment case, the suicide bombing, the living people treated as test subjects... Every corpse tells me the same name. That name is my mentor. That name is my own. Three years ago, I buried the key to the darkroom with my own hands, then forgot everything. Now the seed is ready to sprout. They want me to be afraid. But they don't know that someone who has spent three years listening to the dead has nothing left to fear.
