Synopsis
The day Chen Xuan was buried alive, he learned that someone had been borrowing his fortune for eighteen years.
The one who stole it was his maternal uncle, who treated him like an ingredient, drained every last drop of value from him, then nailed him inside a flimsy coffin and buried him on a barren hillside.
When Chen Xuan broke out of the coffin, he had only one thing on his mind: wipe out the man’s entire family.
Then the jade pendant on his chest lit up.
Called the Two-Worlds Handbook, it took him to Renjia Town. He tried to become Uncle Jiu’s apprentice, but Qiusheng ruined it. By a twist of fate, he met the man who had spent his life studying incomplete texts on thunder magic in the Dharma-Ending Age.
The Thunderbolt Mage, Shi Jian.
“Even if you train for a hundred years, your natural aptitude won’t get you anywhere,” Shi Jian said. “But I have a cultivation technique that can cleanse your useless constitution and turn it into one suited to thunder magic. It’s a nine-out-of-ten chance of dying. Will you learn it?”
Chen Xuan answered with just one word.
From then on, Maoshan had a new disciple, Shi Jian’s sole personal apprentice. He used lightning to draw talismans, lightning to subdue corpses, and even lightning to perform rites of salvation. Qiusheng said that wasn’t Taoist magic. Chen Xuan replied, “Use whatever method you like. As long as the evil spirits die, that’s what matters.”
Back in the real world, he still had scores to settle.
Not one of the people who had stolen his fortune would get away.
While he was at it, he helped a faded star make a comeback, adjusted the feng shui for business magnates, and occasionally performed “empowerment” himself.
“Daoist Chen, are you a good person or a bad one?”
“Miss, I call it being so righteous I seem wicked.”
