She Lured Me Into a Fake Marriage for the Gift Money, and My Cold-Faced Boss Took the Bait

Cheng Liheng, pronounced “Heng,” is the stern, intimidating boss everyone fears. At 29 and unmarried, he's set his sights on his beautiful, fair-skinned subordinate, Chu Xi.

He tempts her with generous terms: no marriage certificate, just split the money; once the wedding banquet is over, they go their separate ways, plus a commission of 300,000 yuan.

Short on cash, Chu Xi agrees on the spot.

What she never expected was that after the wedding, her once-unsmiling boss would set traps for her at every turn in the office:

“Come by my office. We need to go over how we'll act when we visit our elders next week.”

Chu Xi sits down stiffly. Cheng Liheng slides a sheet of paper toward her, then leans forward, his tall frame suddenly looming close.

Chu Xi instinctively shrinks back.

“Why are you avoiding me?”

His gaze falls on the tips of her ears, now flushed red. He taps a line on the paper with his finger. “These are all questions Grandma might ask. We'll have to act out the answers later.”

He picks her up and drops her off at work, keeps her alone with him when she's working late, and takes care of every little thing for her under the guise of being her husband. He favors her at work and uses their act as an excuse to keep creating intimate moments, gradually breaking down her defenses.

Everyone thinks the boss arranged a fake marriage with his subordinate just to recoup the cash gifts he'd given at other people's weddings over the years.

Only Cheng Liheng knows the truth: he's had his eye on Chu Xi for a long time, and the wedding gifts were just an excuse to carefully lay a trap of marriage.

From the moment he planned their fake wedding, the thing he wanted to claim was never the gift money. It was all of her.

Only after Chu Xi fell for him did she realize that she had been her boss's carefully planned target all along.

Once the banquet was over and the gifts had been counted, he kept only the groom's boutonniere, waiting for his chance. At last, he stood before her with the deed to a brand-new home in hand.

“The game is over. I've bought us a home. Marry me.”
