Doomsday survival + hardcore infrastructure + giant insect disaster. The tone is cold and pragmatic, not sensational and nonsensical. The protagonist uses engineering thinking to solve problems and is emotionally stable to the point of being cold. The end of the world is not used to exaggerate despair, but to test the upper limits of human organizational capabilities and technology.
