After inheriting his uncle’s Chinese restaurant, Jason discovers a cruel secret hidden in the kitchen:
Every month, he must make a dish from a designated recipe, or else one of his body parts will be randomly taken away.
The first “diners” his cooking attracts aren’t people. They’re the “Hungry Gentleman,” who can chew car doors like cookies, and the Keter-class lizard-chicken beast, whose gaze can turn things to stone.
Jason is consequently recruited by the Los Angeles branch of the Normalcy Management Bureau, a massive containment organization dedicated to securing anomalies and keeping “the Veil” intact.
That’s where he learns that the “diners” eating his food are called anomalies, and the beings above them are known as the Old Gods.
They can stop a heart with a breath or change the form of matter with a mere thought.
When Jason first makes a dish to lure an Old God, the kitchen displays an excitement unlike anything it has ever shown before.
Jason can’t help but wonder: What exactly is this kitchen? An anomaly? An Old God? Or something even more ancient?
