Female lead:
Cheng Jing thinks she’s a retainer, but everyone else treats her like a whore.
Male lead:
I say one thing and mean another. I can’t speak my true feelings. I fell for you at first sight, yet I insist on blaming you for seducing me with your loose ways. I want to say I love you, but every word out of my mouth is another arrow to wound you. I have a cruel tongue, and I keep making mistakes. Please… love me…
(Aside from the leads being faithful to each other, this story is basically a minefield of triggers: it’s melodramatic, toxic, and a total mess. The author has no strength left to list the warnings, so come on in if you have no limits. This was written in a fit of madness. The male lead starts out as a vulgar, swaggering jerk, then turns into a complete whipped husband later on. The female lead is an ordinary, healthy-minded country girl. She has her clever little tricks, sometimes gets outsmarted by her own cleverness, and can be dazzled by the glitter of a prosperous city. Please don’t expect too much from us country folks, sob sob.)
