Ying Yue first met Jiang Che when she was sixteen. On her way home from school one day, a group of thugs cornered her in a dead-end alley. He appeared just in time, as if he had been made to be her rescuer. Without a word, he took her hand and led her away from them.
The second time she met Jiang Che, he was the marriage prospect her grandfather had arranged after returning from abroad. The dinner was already unpleasant, and then her grandfather was suddenly hospitalized. Not wanting the old man to worry about her anymore, Ying Yue made a firm proposal:
