My Deskmate Is a Self-Disciplined Pain in the Neck

While the whole school is killing themselves cramming for exams, Lin Ye is the only one content to take it easy and coast through life.

Everyone in the honors class thinks he’s lazy, mediocre, and unambitious. That is, until kidnappers strike in a busy part of town and he calmly devises a plan to rescue a child; thugs from another school barge into his classroom to bully his classmates and he stands alone to back them up; a classmate with an edgy, nihilistic worldview gets lost in the darkness, and Lin Ye cuts through the confusion with clear, incisive reasoning.

His high-strung deskmate, a top student consumed by anxiety and paranoia, gradually finds relief through him. The solitary senior who has seen the harsh side of life can see through his calm facade to the fear and vigilance beneath. And whenever trouble arises, all the lively characters in the class look to him as their anchor.

His laid-back demeanor is only the surface; calm is his nature, and kindness lies at his core. He enjoys a quiet life away from the world, but he also has the courage to step up when it matters.

In an ordinary, realistic modern high school, there are no magical cheats, only the everyday clash between cutthroat competition and taking it easy, the genuine loyalty between boys, and a quiet warmth and courage beneath the bustle of daily life.
