The male protagonist Song Jinnian is dressed as the young king of the Xia Yue Kingdom, the poorest country. He has a full set of industrial revolution technologies in his mind, from blast furnace steelmaking and curved shaft plow reform to making invulnerable armor from the scales of monsters. Song Jinnian just revitalizes a small and broken country that is about to collapse. But when he led five hundred militiamen to the city gate and saw with his own eyes the bloody vertical eye in the abyss of clouds and mist that was higher than the mountain, he realized that what he had to face was far more than just a struggle for power. It was the demon beast Tianzun that had awakened again after sleeping for four hundred years, and its power came from a heart that was about to explode in the deepest part of the abyss. Song Jinnian gradually understood: This battle is not about weapons and gunpowder, but the heart that is willing to die for the lights of thousands of families.

This is definitely the most humane time travel novel I've read this year! The father who uses his daughter to deduct taxes from the beginning, the prime minister in patched official uniforms, the hungry people chewing tree bark, every supporting character has flesh and blood. When Song Jinnian used monster scales to make invulnerable armor, it was not a high-tech crush, but the back of the "poorest small country" desperately struggling to survive under the gaze of the abyss. Especially at the end, when the four major sectors were in crisis at the same time and he had to make a sacrifice choice, I inexplicably thought of many of those retrograde people in movies. Who can see this kind of determination to die for the lights of thousands of houses and not shout "Okay"!
This book has so much staying power! At first glance, it seems like a cool story about the male protagonist using modern technology to save a poor country, but the details are poignant. The civilian girl who forcibly kissed him later became the most serious apprentice in the armor workshop; The most shocking thing was when Song Jinnian discovered that the power of the monster came from the heart of the abyss, the battle was not a battle of weapons at all. I sat in silence for ten minutes after reading it, and my mind was filled with those crooked pins on the peace charm. The setting of "giving up power" is too cruel and too warm, just like those ordinary heroes in our real life who usually don't see much, but can risk their lives at critical moments. This kind of delicate emotion is enough for me to remember for a whole year!
