Su Bai twisted the throttle and ran a red light.
The rain had just stopped, and the asphalt gleamed. He held the handlebars with his left hand and fumbled with his phone in his right. A red bubble reading “Customer asking about order” flashed on the screen.
“Ding! You have a new delivery assignment. Please handle it promptly.”
“Rush, rush, rush. Are you trying to kill me?” Su Bai gritted his teeth as his electric scooter squeezed between two cars. “I'm still three hundred meters away. Even flying would take two minutes, Auntie Zhang.”
His phone buzzed. Auntie Zhang: “Where's my burger? It's late!” Auntie Zhang: “What's wrong with you young people?” Auntie Zhang: “Believe me, I'll give you a bad review!”
Su Bai rolled his eyes and stuffed his phone into the side pocket of his insulated delivery bag. Inside lay a “Cosmic Burger,” a double beef patty with cheese, in a bag printed with a bright yellow planet logo.
“Let her leave a bad review. Better than running a red light and getting killed.” He muttered as he slowed down. “My life matters. My life matters…”
A white light flared.
It wasn't a car's headlights. It wasn't a streetlight.
