Yang Miaozhen was the leading figure of the Red Coats, a peasant rebel army at the end of the Jin dynasty. Both wise and courageous, she twice turned the tide when all seemed lost. First, after her brother Yang An'er was killed by a traitor, she led the remnants of the army to retreat to Moqi Mountain in Juzhou, also known as Maqi Mountain. Second, after her husband Li Quan was killed by the Song army, she went with the tide of history, gathered the remaining troops, and surrendered to the Mongols. In the end, she resigned from the post of governor of Yidu Province, conferred on her by the Great Mongol State, and resolutely became a nun. She was a heroine of her age.
This book has considerable historical, military, and literary value.
