Zhang Juzheng Is Dead. It’s Time for Me to Go Through the Ming Dynasty’s Ledgers

In the tenth year of the Wanli reign, four ministers are reborn, one man transmigrates, and a countdown to the empire’s collapse hangs over the entire court.

Yan Song excels at finance, Xu Jie is skilled at keeping things steady, Gao Gong is a master of military and government affairs, and Zhang Juzheng understands institutions inside and out.

Each of the four great ministers has his own convictions and faction. They are both allies and adversaries, locked in a contest at court.

Only Lin Mo, a fan of Ming history, knows every dead end awaiting the dynasty in its final years, yet he is constrained by a historical script that keeps changing.

The tax system is broken, factional infighting drains the state, border threats multiply, and institutions have grown rotten… The Ming dynasty is crippled by problems that seem impossible to fix.

He uses double-entry bookkeeping to cure a financial ill that has plagued the empire for a thousand years, credit finance to revive the stagnant dynasty, and modern thinking to balance competing visions for reform.

He does not rely on history to limit the damage, nor does he believe that famous ministers can save the world.

The five players reshape the system, reverse the dynasty’s decline, and bring three hundred years of recurring imperial collapse to an end.
