Forensic pathologist Luo Xia is investigating a corruption scandal when he dies in a car crash. He wakes up as a lone white skeleton in an endless prison. The prison has a brutal rule: any violence rebounds on the attacker. Only a soul contract can break the shackles. Skilled at deducing the law, he sees through the traps in the rules, recruits an information-gathering rat demon with eight hundred years of experience, turns the Abyssal Lord, the Ice Lich, and the Fallen Angel through persuasion, and makes a symbiotic pact with the dragon guarding the prison. Using the blood moon tide to upend the balance of power, he lays plans within plans to break the seals of the gods on all three levels and leads the prisoners in a breakout. He enters a barren Underworld drained of magic and builds his power from the Bonekeep, using contracts and political maneuvering to contend with the undead lords. As he expands his territory and searches for the three fragments of the Underworld's origin to free the dragon, he never forgets the charge entrusted to him in prison: to find Chu Ping's daughter, who has a crescent-shaped scar. He does not rely on brute force to crush his foes, but stirs a chaotic age through human nature and the rules themselves. This lone skeleton will ultimately forge a Black-Blood Throne of his own.
