Seven lines are engraved on the bronze plaque, each worn smooth by the fingertips of those who have used it.
“First: This shop accepts no gold coins, only objects of fate worth as much as your desire.”
“Second: Customers must understand the price and agree to write their names of their own free will. Identity, blood ties, royal decrees, and divine revelations cannot consent on another person’s behalf.”
“Third: Once a deal is struck, reality is rewritten immediately. What you receive will not be returned just because you regret it, and the price you pay will not be reduced just because your reasons are justified.”
“Fourth: Fighting, force, and coercion are forbidden inside the shop. The rules protect only what lies within the threshold; they will not deal with every enemy outside for you.”
“Fifth: Pawned items can be redeemed, but the price is not fixed. Every choice you make after leaving may raise the price, or render redemption meaningless.”
“Sixth: The pawnshop moves only along valid anchors of fate. Only the shop’s pawned items, its proprietor, and those holding valid contracts may travel with it. Outsiders cannot follow.”
“Seventh: Even gods may trade, but gods cannot buy on credit.”
