Choosing My College Major, I Preorder Peking and Tsinghua at a Discount

The night before college applications were due, Chen Mu came across a lucky koi giveaway post:

[Share this lucky koi to pre-order any university admission for one-tenth the usual cost]

1. Regular top-tier university: 1 credit

2. Popular major at a 211 university: 3 credits

3. Flagship major at a 985 university: 5 credits

4. Computer Science at Tsinghua: 8 credits

5. Guanghua School of Management at Peking University: 8 credits

Chen Mu was just being cheeky when he casually commented, “Then I’ll take number 4. That’ll save me forty years of detours.”

The next day, the application portal refreshed, and his admission status was locked in ahead of schedule.

His whole family was dumbfounded. So was his homeroom teacher.

The entire school was dumbfounded, and so was Chen Mu.

Then, on the night his admission letter arrived, the System popped up a message:

[First debt payment reminder: Reach a GPA of 3.8 credits before your sophomore year]

[If payment is overdue, your admission will be repossessed]

Chen Mu: “Come on, bro. The lucky koi gives out predatory loans too?”

For everyone else, college is a chance to enjoy their youth.

For him, it’s a factory job to pay off his debt.
