The golden finger is "absolute electromagnetic perception", but the ability is not to "directly translate" intelligence. What the protagonist hears is a stream of raw radio signals, including secret radio stations, civilian broadcasts, Japanese military police communications, and even encrypted calls from the convoy of high-ranking enemy officials. He had to extract valuable information from the vast amounts of noise and use extremely rudimentary equipment (he assembled his own radio) to verify and locate the source of the signal. He is not an invincible hacker, but a walking "signal demodulator".
