A Long Night of Great Clarity

In the final years of the Chongzhen reign, the Ming dynasty was on the brink of collapse. Crown Prince Zhu Cilang was ordered to leave the capital and take command of the army, plunging into an age of chaos. When Dongchang was besieged, he defended the isolated city as a young man, forged firearms, and won over generals. Defying orders in Liaodong, he crossed the pass, killed the Qing commander, and reclaimed Jinzhou. When Beijing fell and the Chongzhen Emperor was disgraced, the Crown Prince escorted him west, held Tongguan and defended Xi'an, cultivated farmland, and trained troops, laying new foundations amid the ruins. Flintlock guns rang across Guanzhong. Between spring planting and autumn harvests, the boy who had defended a city grew into a ruler governing in the emperor's stead. The rebel armies were crushed, the Qing army watched from the border, and the night stretched on, but dawn would come at last. No System, no golden finger. This is the story of how one man first fought to survive, then sought to establish himself, and gradually planned for what came next amid the chaos.
