(Two female leads: Shen Ci, a vampire, and Yu Tang, an angel)
Three years ago, five fires on the “Night of Ashes” burned through the empire’s borderlands. The case files were sealed under the code name X-077.
Three years later, the same fires broke out again.
Shen Ci, an abyssal vampire and the youngest investigator in the Investigation Division, can smell the stench of a lie. She’s a woman of few words who acts fast, and for three years she’s carried the old X-077 files alone. Until Heaven sent over a newly adult guardian angel.
Yu Tang has a photographic memory and an easygoing smile, but no one told her that her mother died in the fire on the Night of Ashes.
Shen Ci wants to close the case. Yu Tang wants the truth.
The cursed fire contains an unnatural “coldness.” An old warehouse hides a shipment of “old goods” that shouldn’t exist. And deep in the elven autonomous territory is a name that was erased three hundred years ago.
Something buried beneath the ashes is waking up.
And Shen Ci discovers that the further she investigates the fires, the closer they come, until the flames are burning her.
