The story begins in sync with the original. Lin Ye, a first-year student who enters Shohoku High at the same time as Hanamichi Sakuragi, unexpectedly inherits the ceiling-level physical gifts of the Generation of Miracles’ Atsushi Murasakibara: a terrifying 208-centimeter height, overwhelming strength, all-area defense covering the entire three-point line, and elite dynamic vision that lets him predict every attacking move. Once he stands beneath the basket, he becomes an impassable wall.
But unlike passionate young basketball players, he is lazy by nature and hates trouble. He cares little about winning or losing and has no ambition to dominate the court or make it to the national tournament. He plays basketball simply to pass the time.
When he first arrives at Shohoku, he casually blocks Sakuragi’s leaping layup and effortlessly shuts down every one of Rukawa’s attacks. Aota Tatsuhiko from the judo club covets his monstrous physique, while the third-year player Sanmiya picks a fight with him. Lin Ye easily puts them both in their place using nothing but his physical strength.
As Miyagi and Mitsui return to the team, the full Shohoku lineup takes shape. The practice game against Ryonan and the Kanagawa Prefectural Tournament begin one after another. Jun Uozumi’s powerful inside game, Akira Sendoh’s all-around drives, Shohoku’s lineup of towering players, and Hainan’s King Maki all bring their formidable teams to the court, but no one can break through the defensive wall Lin Ye has built in the paint.
Pair the lazy behemoth with the hot-blooded fool Sakuragi, the aloof ace Rukawa, three-point shooter Mitsui, lightning-fast point guard Miyagi, and the mighty Akagi, and this Shohoku squad, now with its ultimate weakness inside the paint filled, completely changes the course of the original story.
He never set out to chase glory, but for the sake of teammates who give their all to reach the national tournament, he repeatedly sets aside his nonchalance and reveals a dominance that overwhelms every high school team in Japan.
With the purple-haired giant guarding Shohoku’s basket, opponents throughout Kanagawa and the entire country will face an unstoppable
