At a sorority, I bumped into my ex-boyfriend of five years. He is now a senior executive of the partner, and he is surrounded by stars. I hid in the corner and pretended not to recognize him.
He exposed my embarrassment in public and asked for the reason for the breakup.
Afterwards, he put a USB flash drive into my hand: "There are emails you didn't read back then."
Inside are hundreds of unread emails.
From angry questioning, to humble pleading, to the last letter that stopped five years ago——
"Where are you? I was wrong. Can you come back?"
But he didn't know the reason why I left that year, or the cold tears I shed while lying alone on the operating table.
For the past five years, he has hated me ruthlessly.
I hate him for being cowardly.
But we were all wrong.
