Landscape Slip

"Landscape Slips", also known as "Sanshui Slips", is a collection of legendary novels written by Huang Fumei in the late Tang Dynasty. It was written in the early years of the Five Dynasties. It records personal experiences and folk anecdotes during the Xiantong and Guangqi years. It is a representative work of legendary novels in the late Tang Dynasty. The book is divided into two volumes and contains more than 30 stories with a wide range of themes: Jiuhua Taoist priests ascending the peak to admire the moon, Huashan fairy trails, fox demons choosing a son-in-law, harvesting moonlight and other ethereal fairy tales. There are real-life public cases such as Yu Xuanji's beating of Lu Qiao, Bu Feiyan's tragic death for love, and the slave girl playing tricks on a dandy. It is also interspersed with documentary footage of wars in feudal towns, official corruption, and civil disasters. The author Ruluo, who has been an official for a long time, has personally experienced the turmoil in the late Tang Dynasty. The stories he writes are intertwined with reality and fiction. Under the shell of gods and monsters, the various aspects of people's livelihood in the troubled times of the late Tang Dynasty are hidden. The writing is alternately parallel and loose, often embedded in poetry. The writing style is clear and graceful, and the plot is ups and downs and moving. The famous story "The Story of Flying Smoke" has been circulated for thousands of years and was published separately. It tells the tragic fate of women under feudal ethics. A small scroll is not only a strange story, but also a miniature history book that reflects the broken mountains and rivers and the decline of the world in the late Tang Dynasty.
