During the Wanli period of the late Ming Dynasty, when the government was corrupt and the people were in dire straits, Li Zicheng from Mizhi County, Shaanxi Province gathered a crowd to revolt, calling himself King Chuang, and led his troops to attack Beijing. Emperor Chongzhen hanged himself in Meishan. After Li Zicheng invaded Beijing, he was outrageous and cruel, and seized Wu Sangui's concubine Chen Yuanyuan, which made Wu Sangui become a crown prince and lead the Qing army into the pass. The Qing army and Wu Sangui teamed up to defeat Li Zicheng. Li Zicheng fled back to Beijing and proclaimed himself emperor, then set fire to the west and fled westward. He was eventually executed by the villagers in Hubei. The Qing army took advantage of the situation and took control of the Central Plains to unify the country.
