A Zayne fanfiction.
I'm Gu Nian, an overworked clinical laboratory technician. I've been in the field for eight years, and my hands are steady and my nerves are steel.
After fainting during a night shift, I transmigrated into Love and Deepspace. When I woke up, there was a freshly printed lab requisition beside me: Blood draw for Zayne.
Fine. Human or sea god, the blood results will tell the tale.
I calmly looked up. “I recommend fasting and coming back for a follow-up in three days. We can run a full biochemical panel while we're at it.”
Later, I discovered that this genius artist was actually Lemuria's last sea god, and his blood held the secrets of an entire lost civilization.
Later still, my daily routine became chasing Zayne down for follow-up tests, stopping him from sneaking ice cream and throwing off his blood sugar, and finding things in his blood samples that weren't in any human textbook.
Zayne said that I was afraid of the dark and ghosts, yet had chased him for three blocks with a blood-draw needle. I was, apparently, the strangest creature in the world.
Much later, when Tao Tao from the Hunter Association asked what exactly was going on between me and the difficult Zayne, I thought it over and answered seriously, “Just a doctor-patient relationship. The kind where you come in for regular checkups.”
A professional at drawing blood from sea gods. Eight hundred years in the making, and all the time in the world ahead.
