In This Chaotic Age, Watch Me Turn the Tables

My name is Cui Qingyan. My father is Cui Hao, a high-ranking minister at court. He rendered great service in helping the late emperor ascend the throne and in establishing the Kingdom of He. But the late emperor was wary of us, so our entire clan was forced to move to the frontier to defend the realm. As a result, I was separated from my childhood sweetheart, Gao Cheng. In the first month of the year, during a heavy snowfall, we should have been waiting for a good harvest beneath the auspicious snow. Instead, an imperial decree arrived ordering the confiscation of our home. I was lucky to survive, and entered a Buddhist temple to save my life. I thought I would spend the rest of my days with only a lamp and the Buddha for company, but then the emperor launched a sweeping campaign against Buddhism, and I was caught up in it too. I narrowly escaped being poisoned, but collapsed from exhaustion while fleeing. When I woke again, I saw a familiar face: Gao Cheng.
