After Leaving with Nothing, I Found Myself a Grandpa in the Military District

[Military marriage, period story, 1980s, family reunion, military compound, face-slapping, sweet romance, fierce heroine, tough military officer, comeback]

Su Tang was thrown out by her ex-husband and mother-in-law, left with nothing but her four-year-old daughter, and forced to wander the streets. Everyone in the county said she deserved it.

She marched into her ex-husband’s house with a cleaver, hauled away the sewing machine that had been part of her dowry, then set up a breakfast stall by the back gate of the military compound.

One bowl of plain noodles smelled so good it caught the attention of a retired senior officer passing by.

The old man took one taste. It was exactly like the food his daughter-in-law, who had gone missing forty years ago, used to make.

Three days later, an army-green jeep stopped in front of Su Tang’s noodle stall. The old man got out, his eyes red, and said:

“Child, you look like your grandmother.” Everyone in the county was left gaping.
