The Castoff Returns to the Capital and Becomes Imperial Preceptor by Catching Ghosts

Her family considered her a bringer of misfortune and sent her to the imperial temple.

As fate would have it, Yun Buda encountered an old man stealing chickens and learned a whole arsenal of ghost-catching techniques.

When drought struck and the monks were helpless, she waved her hand and brought down rain, becoming the imperial court’s female state preceptor in one fell swoop.

“Can the state preceptor save all living beings?”

“Does sending my enemies to their deaths count?”

Later, she took a liking to the exiled young lord, who had lost all his magic. At first, she wanted his bones.

But then she couldn’t bear the thought of him dying too soon.

She pursued him with abandon, then dropped him without a second thought.

Later, the spiritual energy in his body became chaotic, and he needed to unite yin and yang.

Her voice was calm, but carried a note of madness. “Either I knock you out now and sleep with you...”

“Or you stay conscious and do it yourself.”

She paused, then uttered one final word:

“Choose.”

Later, she ran away.

He caught up with her, his voice icy. “Yun Buda, I don’t need you to save me.”

She glanced back. “Then why are you chasing me?”

After a long silence, he said, “I came to demand an explanation.”

“An explanation?” Yun Buda smiled carelessly. “Young lord, I don’t like men with cold faces. If you smile for me, I might consider it.”

His mouth tightened and tightened, until at last he forced out two words in a low voice: “I’ll smile.”
