An irrevocable decree suddenly ordered Ye Zhiqiu to enter the palace at once. The emperor’s earlier gentle overtures had ultimately become a demand backed by imperial power, one she had no way to resist. Utterly helpless, she hastily packed her belongings and was forced to enter the inner palace.
