In 1988, 23-year-old Shen Mingtang lost his grandmother and his temporary job in a state-owned photo studio. In order to preserve the Chun Guang Photo Studio left behind by her mother, she reopened it by restoring old photos. The damaged wedding photos sent by the first customer contained a frame of negatives taken after her mother disappeared. While supporting herself with her crafts, she traced the past events behind the photos and reacquainted herself with the mother she had complained about for nine years.
